AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. VISTA members commit to a year of service at a nonprofit organization or local government agency. VISTA members engage in capacity building efforts through indirect service. VISTA members receive a modest living allowance, student-loan forbearance, health coverage, and childcare to those who are eligible. Upon completion of service, members can elect either the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or a cash stipend.
VISTAs at KDVA commit to a year of full-time service and engage in capacity building and domestic violence prevention activities. VISTAs serve at KDVA’s member programs as well as partner organizations throughout the state. A number of KDVA VISTAs spend their time writing grants, raising funds, and recruiting volunteers to help build sustainability at their organizations.
