KDVA's Prevention Work
KDVA’s capacity for prevention work is growing! We are currently working on many different projects, including internal capacity development and external partnerships and prevention efforts. These partnerships and projects are functioning at both statewide and community specific levels, and we are looking forward to seeing them grow.
Internally, we have successfully developed our organizational ability to do prevention work by incorporating prevention into our Mission Statement, including a new Prevention Committee within our statewide Board of Directors, and by hiring a Prevention Coordinator.
We have also successfully incorporated prevention into our Certification Modules for all advocates in Kentucky, and into our Training Institute. We work with Kentucky’s shelter program AmeriCorps VISTAS, as their demanding schedules allow, on prevention initiatives in the communities they serve, and are planning many exciting things for 2011’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October of this year.
